Bio
Selected by Collingwood with pick six in the 2017 National Draft, Jaidyn Stephenson burst onto the scene as a livewire forward with innate goal sense and electric speed. He enjoyed a standout debut season in 2018, booting 38 goals and playing in the Grand Final, an effort that saw him crowned the Ron Evans Medallist as the AFL Rising Star. However, his trajectory at the Magpies was disrupted the following year when he served a 10-match suspension for breaching the league's wagering rules. Despite returning to the senior side, he became a high-profile casualty of Collingwood's salary cap squeeze following the 2020 season, resulting in a turbulent trade to North Melbourne where he effectively felt forced out of his original club.
At Arden Street, Stephenson was utilised in various roles, spending time on the wing and in the midfield as the Kangaroos looked to harness his run and carry. While he produced isolated match-winning performances and displayed flashes of his natural talent, he struggled to recapture the consistency of his maiden campaign during a difficult on-field period for North Melbourne. After four seasons with the Kangaroos and 122 career games, Stephenson made the surprise decision to retire at the conclusion of the 2024 season, stepping away from the professional game at just 25 years of age after acknowledging he had lost the passion required to compete at the elite level.
