Bio
Recruited as a mature-age rookie from the Coburg Tigers following a stint in the Diamond Valley Football League, Jake King carved out an unlikely AFL career defined by sheer determination and physical aggression. Standing at just 178cm, King initially found his place in the senior side as a scrappy small defender and tagger, often tasked with nullifying dangerous opposition forwards. His playstyle was characterized by a distinct lack of self-preservation, and despite limited technical polish, his tackling pressure and intensity endeared him to the Richmond faithful, cementing his status as a cult figure at Punt Road.
Later in his career, King transitioned into a defensive forward role under Damien Hardwick, where his ability to harass defenders and hit the scoreboard proved valuable during the club's resurgence. He famously played with injuries that would have sidelined many others, embodying a hardness that the Tigers sought to instill in their developing list. King ultimately played 107 games, ensuring his name remains on the locker and securing father-son eligibility, before a degenerative toe injury forced his immediate retirement during the 2014 season.
