Teams

Recruited from Townsville with a background in rugby union, Jake Spencer was a speculative selection for Melbourne in the 2008 Rookie Draft given he had played minimal Australian football prior to joining the club. Standing 203cm, he developed into a physically combative ruckman who relied on aggression and follow-up work rather than natural ball-winning ability. His ten-season tenure at the Demons was marked by significant resilience, as he battled persistent injuries, including an ACL rupture, while serving largely as a depth player behind first-choice ruckmen Mark Jamar and later Max Gawn. Spencer managed just 38 senior games across a decade on the list, often called upon only when injuries struck the club's primary tall timber, before being delisted at the end of the 2017 season.
