Bio
Recruited from Dublin as a Category B rookie, James Madden joined the Brisbane Lions ahead of the 2019 season after impressing scouts with his record-breaking speed and agility at the AFL Europe Combine. A dashing defender capable of taking the game on with his run-and-carry, Madden spent his early years learning the nuances of the code before making his senior debut in 2021. However, he found it difficult to cement a permanent position in a Brisbane side that was consistently contending for premierships, with the team's profound defensive depth often resigning him to the VFL. After managing just 13 games over six seasons and unable to break into the senior side during the club's 2024 premiership campaign, he was delisted and subsequently returned to Ireland to resume his Gaelic football career.
