Bio
Selected with pick 19 in the 2008 National Draft, James Strauss arrived at Melbourne from the Oakleigh Chargers as a highly rated prospect noted for his elite kicking and composure. A rebounding defender capable of setting up play from the back half, his development was hampered by the instability surrounding the Demons during a bleak on-field era for the club. Just as he appeared to be cementing a regular spot in the senior side during the 2011 season, Strauss suffered a severe broken leg against Carlton at the MCG which significantly derailed his momentum. Although he eventually returned to match fitness, he struggled to recapture his best form or consistently break into the lineup under subsequent coaches Mark Neeld and Paul Roos, ultimately being delisted at the conclusion of the 2014 season.
