Bio
Recruited from Swan Districts with pick 35 in the 2008 National Draft, Jamie Bennell arrived at Melbourne as a dashing half-back known for his line-breaking speed and agility. He made an immediate impression by debuting in the opening round of 2009, becoming a regular fixture in the Demons' backline during his first two seasons. However, form inconsistencies during a difficult period for the club saw him delisted at the end of 2012, prompting a move back to his home state after West Coast offered him a lifeline in the Rookie Draft. At the Eagles, Bennell reinvented himself as a disciplined lockdown defender, often tasked with curbing dangerous small forwards. Although he cemented a spot in the senior side throughout 2014, a ruptured ACL sustained in the WAFL the following year effectively ended his AFL career, and he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
