Bio
Recruited from Maryborough in the Ballarat Football League, Jamie Elliott was a bargain late selection for Fitzroy in the 1989 National Draft who developed into a composed half-back flanker and midfielder. He was known for his clean hands, excellent vision, and ability to read the play from defence, attributes that compensated for his lack of explosive pace. After establishing himself at the Lions, he requested a clearance and moved to Richmond via the pre-season draft, but his stint at Punt Road was heavily restricted by persistent hamstring and back issues. A trade to St Kilda in exchange for Wayne Thornborrow appeared to offer a fresh start, and he featured in the Saints' 1996 pre-season premiership side, only for a shoulder injury sustained in that Grand Final to derail his season. Ultimately a talented journeyman whose body struggled to withstand the rigours of the top level, he finished his AFL career before returning to country football as a prolific forward and coach.
