Bio
Recruited by the Brisbane Lions with pick three in the 2002 National Draft, Jared Brennan established himself as one of the most unorthodox and enigmatic players of his generation. Famous for his distinctive one-handed ball carrying style and supreme athleticism, he was a true utility capable of lining up in the ruck, as a tall midfielder, or in key positions at either end of the ground. While his output was occasionally marked by inconsistency, his raw talent and capacity to improvise made him a damaging X-factor during the Lions' post-premiership era.
After 119 games with Brisbane, Brennan moved to the Gold Coast Suns as a priority signing ahead of their inaugural season in 2011. He was brought in to provide seasoned bodies and leadership to a fledgling list, often shouldering a heavy workload to protect younger teammates. He played a further 54 games for the expansion club before retiring at the end of 2013, remembered ultimately as a unique football character whose flair and unconventional methods set him apart in an increasingly structured game.
