Bio
Originally selected with pick 5 in the 2010 National Draft by the Brisbane Lions, Polec arrived with significant hype from Woodville-West Torrens. However, his time in Queensland was hampered by persistent injuries and homesickness, leading him to request a trade back to South Australia after just three seasons as part of the broader "Go Home Five" exodus. Landing at Port Adelaide, Polec truly established himself, becoming one of the competition's most damaging outside midfielders. His ability to break lines with speed and deliver the ball with a penetrating, elite left foot made him a critical offensive weapon on the wing during the Power's resurgence in the mid-2010s.
Following a career-best season in 2018, Polec made a high-profile and lucrative switch to North Melbourne during the trade period. The move carried heavy expectations, and while his disposal counts remained respectable early on, questions regarding his defensive accountability and two-way running plagued his tenure at Arden Street. Despite possessing undeniable talent, he fell out of favour with successive coaches, spending significant stints in the VFL as the club underwent a rebuild. He was ultimately delisted at the end of the 2022 season, concluding a career defined by his damaging run-and-carry but tempered by an inconsistent final chapter.
