Bio
The son of former Port Adelaide SANFL player and Federal MP Steve Irons, Jarrad Irons was a genuine "smokey" when selected with pick 50 in the 2011 Rookie Draft. Recruited from Perth in the WAFL, the fleet-footed midfielder enjoyed a meteoric rise during his first summer at Alberton, surprising pundits by forcing his way into the Power’s senior side for the opening round of the 2011 season. He looked lively early, booting three goals across his first three appearances including a solid debut against Collingwood, but the step up in intensity and a significant shoulder injury eventually halted his momentum. Irons struggled to recapture that initial spark at SANFL level and, unable to break back into the senior lineup during the 2012 season, was delisted after a brief two-year stint.
