Bio
Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels with pick 17 in the 2016 National Draft, Jarrod Berry arrived at the Gabba alongside close friend Hugh McCluggage, immediately becoming a foundational piece of Brisbane's regeneration under Chris Fagan. A big-bodied midfielder renowned for his elite aerobic capacity, Berry was thrown into the deep end early in his career, shouldering significant physical responsibility during the Lions' rebuilding phase. While his younger brother Thomas briefly joined him at the club before moving to the Gold Coast, Jarrod remained a one-club stalwart, overcoming persistent shoulder injuries to evolve from a pure inside ball-winner into one of the league's most versatile structural midfielders.
Berry’s value to the Lions often transcends raw possession counts, defined instead by his defensive accountability and two-way running. He successfully reinvented himself as a discipline-focused winger and a tactical run-with player, most notably swinging the momentum of the 2022 Semi Final with a suffocating tagging role on Melbourne's Clayton Oliver. This selflessness was a critical ingredient in Brisbane’s premiership success in 2024, where his ability to shut down opposition playmakers while providing transition run proved vital. Now a premiership player and a senior leader within the group, Berry remains the standard-setter for endurance at the club, utilizing his tank to outwork opponents and support the defensive unit.
