Teams

A mature-age recruit who forced his way onto the AFL list through persistent form with Richmond's VFL affiliate Coburg, Jarrod Silvester was a key defender who played a brief but memorable cameo in the 2009 season. After earning VFL Team of the Year honours, he was drafted as a rookie and eventually elevated to the senior side, where his 191cm frame allowed him to compete against opposition tall forwards. While he only managed five senior appearances, Silvester is best remembered for a crucial moment during the Round 16 draw against North Melbourne; with scores level in the dying seconds, he won a match-saving free kick in a one-on-one contest against David Hale deep in defence to preserve the result. Despite showing promise as a contested marker, he was delisted at the end of the year and continued his football journey in the SANFL with West Adelaide.
