Bio
Recruited by Collingwood via the NSW scholarship pathway, Jarrod Witts arrived at the elite level as a developing giant from Sydney. While he showed early promise at the Magpies, his career gathered momentum slowly as he found himself stuck behind Brodie Grundy in the ruck pecking order. Relegated largely to a backup role and unable to secure the number one mantle, Witts requested a trade to the Gold Coast Suns at the end of the 2016 season in search of greater opportunity, a move that ultimately unlocked his potential as one of the league's most imposing big men.
Upon arriving at the Gold Coast, Witts immediately solidified his place as the primary ruckman, using his 209cm frame to dominate hit-outs and provide a physical reference point for the Suns' midfield. His influence grew rapidly, leading to his appointment as co-captain in 2019, the same year he claimed the Club Champion award. A heavy-bodied tap ruckman known for his durability and leadership during a challenging era for the expansion club, Witts transformed from a depth player at Collingwood into a foundational pillar and revered leader for the Suns.
