Jaryd Cachia's AFL career was defined by persistence, having initially been rookie-listed by Carlton in 2010 only to be delisted without playing a senior game. Forced to earn a second chance through state league football, he moved to the SANFL and played a pivotal role in Norwood's 2012 premiership, prompting the Blues to re-draft him as a mature-age rookie ahead of the 2013 season. A hard-running defensive midfielder, Cachia found a brief niche under coach Mick Malthouse as a run-with specialist, utilising his endurance and tackling intensity to nullify opposition prime movers. He played all 14 of his career games during that 2013 campaign, including an elimination final victory, but was unable to sustain his spot the following year and was delisted for a final time at the end of 2014.
