Bio
Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick 34 in the 2012 National Draft, Jason Ashby arrived at Essendon as a composed medium defender noted for his endurance and elite disposal by foot. Viewed primarily as a rebounding half-back capable of setting up counter-attacks, he made his senior debut in the opening round of the 2014 season against North Melbourne. However, Ashby struggled to cement a regular spot in the rotation during a turbulent era for the Bombers. Even during the 2016 season, where the club's list was decimated by suspensions, he found himself on the fringes of selection as mature-age top-up players filled key defensive posts. Unable to translate his VFL form into consistent senior impact, he was delisted at the end of 2016 after managing just 12 games across four seasons.
