Bio
Recruited from West Adelaide with pick 8 in the 1988 National Draft, Jason Baldwin developed into a reliable utility for Fitzroy during the club's difficult final era. Capable of playing at both ends of the ground but primarily used as a key defender, he became a consistent figure in the Lions' lineup throughout the early 1990s. Baldwin was known for his honest, competitive approach and durability, often shouldering heavy defensive workloads as the side struggled against well-resourced opposition. He remained a loyal servant to the club until its demise, playing 125 games in the maroon and blue and featuring prominently in their final, tumultuous 1996 season.
Following the merger of Fitzroy and Brisbane, Baldwin was thrown a lifeline by Richmond, who selected him with pick 6 in the 1996 National Draft. Joining former Lions teammates such as Paul Broderick and Michael Gale at Punt Road, he hoped to extend his career in a new environment. However, his stint at Tigerland proved brief and difficult; hampered by knee issues and strong competition for spots, he managed just two senior appearances in 1997. Unable to recapture his best form or maintain fitness, Baldwin departed the AFL landscape at the conclusion of that season, remembered primarily as a stalwart of the final generation of Fitzroy players.
