Bio
Recruited from Swan Districts, Jason Ball entered the AFL system during West Coast's powerhouse era of the early 1990s. He quickly established himself as a versatile tall capable of holding down a key forward post or relieving in the ruck, playing a significant role in the Eagles' 1994 premiership triumph. After eight seasons in Perth, Ball was traded to the Sydney Swans ahead of the 2000 season, adding vital experience and structural stability to a developing list.
Throughout his career, Ball was characterised by his discipline and tactical utility rather than high possession counts. He was a strong contested mark and a reliable set shot, but arguably played his best football as a gritty, physical ruckman during his time in the harbour city. His career concluded in the ultimate fashion, acting as the starting ruckman in Sydney's drought-breaking 2005 premiership victory. By retiring immediately after the Grand Final, Ball joined a select group of players to win flags at two different clubs.
