Bio
Recruited from the Prahran Dragons with pick 24 in the 1999 National Draft, Jason Blake developed into the ultimate utility for St Kilda, serving the club with distinction across 14 seasons. While rarely a headline act, he became a structural pillar during the Ross Lyon era, renowned for his durability, elite endurance, and willingness to sacrifice his own game for the team. Standing 189cm, Blake was often asked to punch above his weight, regularly functioning as an undersized ruckman against the competition's tallest opponents, or shifting into roles as a lockdown defender and defensive midfielder to nullify key opposition playmakers.
Blake's career is frequently cited by football statisticians for a unique anomaly; he holds the VFL/AFL record for the most games played (219) without polling a single Brownlow Medal vote, a fact that underscores his reputation as a selfless worker rather than a flashy ball-winner. He was a constant presence in St Kilda's formidable lineup of the late 2000s, playing in the 2009 Grand Final as well as the 2010 draw and replay. A St Kilda Life Member, Blake retired at the end of the 2013 season as one of the most respected one-club players of his generation.
