Bio
Drafted by the Brisbane Lions with pick 19 in the 2001 National Draft, Jason Gram struggled to break into a formidable premiership lineup, managing just two games before being traded to St Kilda at the end of 2003. It was at the Saints where the Gippsland Power product flourished, establishing himself as a damaging rebounding defender known for his frantic run-and-carry and a penetrating right boot that made him a scoring threat from outside fifty. He became a crucial architect of St Kilda's transition game under Ross Lyon, offering an attacking flair that balanced the team's disciplined defensive structures during their peak years.
Gram's standing in the game was nearly cemented in history during the 2009 Grand Final against Geelong, where he gathered 30 disposals in a wet, attritional contest. He finished equal on votes for the Norm Smith Medal with Geelong's Paul Chapman but missed out on the honour due to a countback, a near-miss that mirrored the Saints' narrow defeat on the day. Despite winning a Michael Tuck Medal in the pre-season and playing in two further Grand Final draws and replays, his career tapered off as the club entered a rebuild phase. He was delisted by St Kilda at the conclusion of the 2012 season, ending his time at the elite level with 156 games.
