Bio
Born in Chicago, Jason Holmes created history as the first born-and-raised American to play AFL football. A former college basketballer for Morehead State, he was identified at the US Combine for his elite vertical leap and joined St Kilda via pick 36 in the 2014 Rookie Draft. Holmes developed as an athletic ruckman, utilising his height and sporting background to compete strongly at stoppages while learning the nuances of positioning and disposal in the VFL with Sandringham. He broke through for his debut in Round 21, 2015 against Geelong, but found consistent senior opportunities limited behind established ruckmen Billy Longer and Tom Hickey. After managing five games across four seasons, he was delisted at the conclusion of 2017, leaving a legacy as a pioneer for international recruitment from the United States.
