Bio
A Richmond native, Jason Ralph earned his opportunity with South Melbourne as a mature-age recruit during the VFL's infancy in 1898. Standing 180cm—considered tall timber for the era—he provided a physical presence for the Southerners, likely rotating through the followers or filling a key defensive post to shore up a struggling lineup. He broke into the senior side in Round 6 and retained his place for a month of football, battling away in a team that eventually finished second-last on the ladder. Ralph failed to trouble the scorers during his tenure and departed the club after just five appearances in the red and white, leaving a fleeting mark on the league's early history.
