Jason Roe faced a winding path to AFL football, originally spending the 2003 season on Collingwood's rookie list without registering a senior game. After returning to North Adelaide in the SANFL to refine his craft, he earned a second lifeline when the Brisbane Lions recruited him as a mature-age rookie. A versatile key defender with impressive athleticism, Roe became a fixture in the Lions' backline from 2006 to 2008, often tasked with manning opposition tall forwards and providing rebound from the defensive 50. While he proved to be a serviceable stopper during a transitional period for the club, he fell out of favour during the 2009 season and was subsequently delisted, ending his career with a half-century of games.
