Bio
Recruited from South Adelaide in the mid-1990s, Jason Torney established himself as a reliable and versatile defender during an eight-season tenure at Richmond. While he took some time to find his feet at AFL level, he developed into a consistent contributor capable of playing across half-back or locking down on opponents. His time at Punt Road concluded at the end of 2002 when he became a central figure in a high-profile trade arrangement; with Adelaide star Kane Johnson requesting a move home to Victoria, Torney was sent to the Crows as part of the deal, effectively swapping clubs to return to his home state of South Australia.
At Adelaide, Torney immediately justified the club's faith, playing every game in his debut season and earning a reputation as a "solid citizen" of the playing group. He was eventually elevated to the leadership group, valued for his professionalism and defensive accountability. Although his middle years at the club were interrupted by persistent injuries, he managed a complete renaissance in 2007, playing all 23 games and performing consistently in defence. Despite this strong form, he was delisted at the season's end as the Crows looked to regenerate their list with youth, marking an unfortunate end to a 195-game career defined by resilience and reliability.
