Bio
Recruited from Shepparton United, Jason Traianidis arrived at St Kilda via a sliding doors moment where North Melbourne bypassed him for Peter Bell, despite Traianidis featuring in the Kangaroos' 1995 reserves premiership. A versatile utility capable of playing as a half-forward or running defender, he made an immediate impression with a famous soccered goal in the Saints' 1996 Ansett Cup victory. However, his time at Moorabbin was heavily impacted by injury, most notably a back issue that restricted him to just seven games in the club's 1997 season; although he fought his way back to feature in the Qualifying Final win over Brisbane, he ultimately missed selection for the Grand Final side. Further setbacks, including a 1999 knee reconstruction, prevented him from cementing a permanent role in the senior 22, and despite a solid patch as a rebounding defender in 2000, he retired late in the 2001 season following a suspension for striking.
