Bio
Jay Burton, a 202cm ruckman and the younger brother of Fremantle cult figure Matthew "Spider" Burton, faced a career defined by persistence against injury. A Subiaco product with deep family ties to the club, he was originally taken by Richmond with pick 77 in the 1991 National Draft but failed to play a senior game during his stint at Punt Road, instead cutting his teeth in the reserves and VFA. After returning to the WAFL, he was recruited as a foundation selection for Fremantle's inaugural 1995 squad. Burton finally made his AFL debut in Round 16 against his former side Richmond, managing two games for the season largely while his brother was out of the side. However, chronic knee injuries ruined his momentum; despite being delisted and subsequently re-drafted by the Dockers ahead of 1996, he was unable to add to his tally and eventually returned to captain Subiaco in the WAFL.
