Bio
A mature-age recruit from North Launceston via the Casey Demons, Jay Lockhart earned his spot on Melbourne's list through the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection period just prior to the 2019 season. Utilised as a versatile utility capable of impacting contests at either end of the ground, he largely settled into a role as a lockdown small defender and defensive forward known for his closing speed and tackling intent. While he featured regularly during his first two years, including the shortened 2020 campaign, Lockhart found opportunities scarce as the Demons surged toward the premiership in 2021. Unable to cement a place in the arguably strongest best 22 in the league, he was delisted at the end of that season, concluding his three-year stint as a hard-working depth player who successfully bridged the gap between state league and elite football.
