Bio
Recruited from SANFL powerhouse Central District, Jay Nash arrived at Essendon via the second round of the 2003 National Draft. He endured a baptism of fire in his 2005 debut, brought in as a late replacement to stand Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley, but eventually carved out a niche as a rebounding defender who preferred using his penetrating kick to set up play rather than engaging in lockdown roles. After a breakout 2008 season where he became a fixture in the Bombers' back half, foot injuries and form struggles saw him fall out of favour. He secured a trade home to Port Adelaide in late 2009 as part of the complex four-club deal involving Shaun Burgoyne, hoping to revitalise his career. However, he was unable to command a regular spot in the Power's best 22, managing just eight senior appearances before being delisted, though he finished his time in the system by celebrating a SANFL premiership with Central District in 2010.
