Bio
Recruited from Kilsyth, Jayson Daniels debuted for St Kilda as a 17-year-old in 1988, eventually carving out a niche as a disciplined back-pocket specialist and tagger. While he possessed the versatility to play further up the ground, Daniels was most effective in a defensive lockdown role, often tasked with nullifying dangerous small forwards with his close-checking style. After five seasons at Moorabbin, he was traded to Sydney in 1993, where he played 58 games over three seasons and provided experience to the Swans' developing list.
Daniels returned to St Kilda in 1996 via a trade, rejoining the club just as it entered a competitive window under coach Stan Alves. This second stint proved vital to his legacy, as he became a reliable fixture in the Saints' defensive unit during their run to the 1997 Grand Final. He played his final game in the 1998 finals series, retiring with 173 games to his name as a highly respected, serviceable defender who performed his specific role with minimal fuss.
