Bio
Arriving at Kardinia Park as a father-son selection in the 2011 National Draft, Jed Bews continued the family legacy established by his father, former Geelong captain Andrew Bews. Unlike his father, who was known for his midfield dash, Jed carved out a distinct identity as a disciplined, lockdown defender. He served a traditional apprenticeship in the VFL, taking several seasons to fully establish himself in the senior side before cementing his place as a fixture in the back six. Renowned for his elite closing speed and physical accountability, he became the club's primary matchup for the league's most dangerous small forwards, playing a critical role in the Cats' defensive structure with his ability to shut down opponents and provide reliable distribution by foot.
His perseverance culminated in the 2022 Premiership triumph, where his defensive application was integral to the team's success. As he moved into the latter stages of his career, Bews transitioned into a veteran role, often battling for selection against emerging talent while providing experienced depth for the squad. Despite facing pressure for his spot in the 22 during his final seasons, he remained a highly respected figure at the club, valued for his selflessness, leadership standards, and ability to execute specific defensive roles whenever called upon by the coaching staff.
