Bio
Arriving at the Lakeside Oval with a formidable reputation, Jeff Bray was a high-profile recruit from the SANFL who had already established himself as one of South Australia's premier defenders. A key pillar in West Adelaide’s 1961 premiership side and a dual best and fairest winner, Bray was brought to South Melbourne in 1964 to anchor the Swans' backline. A solidly built centre half-back, he was known for his physical presence and capacity to control the defensive arc, famously helping South Australia defeat Victoria at the MCG prior to his move east. However, his VFL tenure was frustrated by persistent injuries, limiting him to just 34 appearances over three seasons. Unable to consistently display his best football in Victoria due to his body letting him down, he eventually returned to West Adelaide, where he is remembered as a club Hall of Famer and a defensive giant of the state league.
