Recruited from Leitchville, Jeff Fehring was an imposing ruckman known for his sheer size and physical approach to the contest. He commenced his VFL career with Geelong in 1977 but found it difficult to hold a regular spot in the senior side, eventually crossing to St Kilda in 1980 in search of more game time. While his career spanned just 36 matches, Fehring is immortalised in football folklore for a single moment of brilliance at Moorabbin in 1981. Playing against Collingwood, he launched a monstrous torpedo punt from well behind the centre circle that sailed through for a goal, an iconic feat that ensures his status as a cult hero long after his brief time at the elite level concluded.
