Stats
Bio
Recruited from Maffra in the Latrobe Valley, Jeff Gieschen joined Footscray in 1974 but faced significant challenges establishing himself as a regular senior player. Operating primarily as a back pocket or utility, his five-season tenure at the Western Oval was heavily restricted by persistent back injuries, limiting him to just 24 appearances and a solitary goal. Although unable to forge a long-term playing career, Gieschen remained deeply embedded in the football landscape, eventually leveraging his tactical knowledge to coach West Perth to a WAFL premiership and lead Richmond at AFL level before serving a long tenure as the league's umpiring manager.
