Bio
Recruited from McKinnon in the Federal Football League, Jeff Grieve was a lightly-built utility who managed a single season of senior football with South Melbourne during the tumultuous early years of the Second World War. The second cousin of Carlton stalwart Ollie Grieve, he broke into the Bloods' lineup in Round 2, 1941, and made 11 appearances that year without troubling the scorers. His football journey was effectively ended by the conflict; a baker by trade, he enlisted in the RAAF in 1942 and eventually rose to the rank of Flight Sergeant. Tragically, Grieve became one of the VFL's fallen heroes when he was killed in November 1944, losing his life in a bomber crash during a training exercise in Scotland.
