Bio
A shining light during one of Richmond's bleakest eras, Jeff Hogg established himself as a durable and reliable key position player after debuting in 1986. Predominantly a full-forward who could also swing into defence, he possessed a strong pair of hands and a reliable set shot, often shouldering a heavy scoring burden in sides that struggled to move the ball efficiently inside 50. His importance to the Tigers was underscored by five leading goalkicker awards, the 1991 Jack Dyer Medal, and his appointment as club captain for the 1993 season.
Despite his standing at Punt Road, Hogg became the centrepiece of a high-profile and somewhat controversial trade following the 1993 season. In a desperate bid to secure midfield depth, Richmond dealt their captain to Fitzroy in exchange for Paul Broderick, Michael Gale, and Matthew Dundas. The move was difficult for Hogg, who had hoped to remain a Tiger for life, but he dutifully headed to the Lions where he provided an experienced target and structural support during the club's turbulent final years in the AFL. Battling injuries late in his tenure, he retired following Fitzroy's 1996 campaign, remembered as a standout performer who consistently delivered under adversity.
