Bio
A product of the prolific Claremont talent factory, Guard arrived at Fitzroy via pick 7 in the 1991 National Draft, part of a famous crop where the WAFL Tigers provided six of the top seven selections. He made an immediate transition to senior football, playing every game in his first two seasons as a hard-running small utility who could rotate through the midfield or apply pressure in the back half. While he was a consistent contributor during the Lions' financially stricken final years, he is most fondly remembered by the faithful for a specific moment in 1992: delivering the desperate final pass to Paul Roos for the famous match-winning goal against Collingwood at Princes Park. Guard departed the AFL at the end of 1995 to return to Western Australia, where he immediately cemented his legacy by captaining Claremont to the 1996 premiership in his first season back.
