Bio
Recruited by Geelong in the 2008 Rookie Draft, Jeremy Laidler found it difficult to break into the Cats' premiership-calibre defence, managing only a handful of games before requesting a trade to Carlton seeking greater opportunity. He enjoyed an immediate breakout season with the Blues in 2011, establishing himself as an elite intercept marker and courageous third tall defender. However, his momentum at Princes Park was stalled by a significant knee injury and a well-publicised falling out with coach Mick Malthouse, resulting in his departure as a delisted free agent at the end of 2013. Laidler successfully revived his career at Sydney, where his disciplined positioning and defensive reliability saw him become a fixture in the Swans' backline, playing in both the 2014 and 2016 Grand Final defeats before retiring in 2017.
