Bio
A towering recruit from Finley in the New South Wales Riverina, Broockmann arrived at Fitzroy standing an imposing 192cm, a giant stature for the late 1950s. While his height suggested a promising future as a ruckman or key position pillar, he joined the Lions during a competitive period under coach Len Smith, with the club destined for a preliminary final that season. Stuck behind established stars like captain and lead ruckman Alan Gale, Broockmann found opportunities scarce at Brunswick Street. He managed just three senior appearances in the middle of the 1958 season before departing the VFL scene.
