Bio
Recruited from Ivanhoe, Jim Brown was a tall utility who found opportunities scarce in a strong Fitzroy lineup during the immediate post-war years. Standing 187cm, he debuted late in the 1945 season but did not feature in the club's premiership run that year, and failed to register a senior game throughout 1946. After managing a run of nine appearances in 1947, Brown departed the VFL for Tasmania, signing with New Norfolk in a move that ultimately defined his career. He became a standout performer in the Tasmanian Football League, immediately proving his quality by winning the William Leitch Medal as the competition's best and fairest player in 1948.
