Bio
Recruited from Claremont in Western Australia, Jim Reid was a dynamic wingman who made an immediate impact at South Melbourne during the club's golden era of interstate recruitment. Renowned for his blistering pace and accurate drop kicking, he quickly became a key playmaker for the Bloods, polling the most Brownlow Medal votes of any player at the club in his debut season. Reid played in consecutive Grand Finals in 1935 and 1936, unfortunately tasting defeat in both deciders before opting to return to the WAFL. Although his VFL career was limited to just two seasons, his ability to step straight into a top-tier midfield ensured he is remembered as a high-quality talent who left on his own terms.
