Stats
Bio
Recruited from St Vincents, Jim Canfield was a tall utility who briefly held custodianship of the prestigious number 1 guernsey at Princes Park during the 1977 season. Standing 191cm, he offered versatility as a key position prospect capable of pinch-hitting in the ruck, managing nine senior appearances and two goals in his solitary VFL campaign. Despite showing promise at the top level, Canfield’s career was ultimately defined by a decision to prioritise life off the field; at just 20 years of age, he turned his back on the VFL to return to his family's farm. He subsequently carved out a respected tenure in country football, immediately taking on the role of captain-coach for Birchip in the Mallee Football League.
