Bio
Recruited from Melbourne High School Old Boys, Jim Chapman arrived at Fitzroy carrying a famous surname as the son of former club captain and 1920s star Charlie Chapman. Standing 182cm, he possessed the frame to play as a tall utility, but he found the transition to VFL football challenging and largely operated on the fringe of the senior team. Chapman made a promising start to his career by booting a goal on debut against Hawthorn in the opening round of the 1954 season, yet this would remain the solitary goal of his career. Unable to replicate the dominant forward play of his father, he struggled to hold a permanent spot in the side, managing just 14 appearances across three seasons before drifting out of the league after the 1956 campaign.
