Bio
A Boer War veteran who served with the 5th Victorian Mounted Rifles, Jim Conquest arrived at Melbourne via a stint with Prahran in the VFA. His start in the VFL was initially delayed by a season-ending leg injury upon signing in 1903, but he eventually established himself as a handy rover and half-forward capable of hitting the scoreboard. His time at the club was often hampered by fitness setbacks, including a disrupted 1905 campaign, yet he managed to remain a regular fixture in the senior side for five seasons. Conquest eventually left Melbourne to return to Prahran, though his football journey ended in frustration when a bureaucratic dispute over his permit status blocked a planned move to South Australian club Sturt.
