Bio
Recruited from West Melbourne Juniors, Jim Darcy holds a distinct place in football history as a member of Essendon’s inaugural VFL team that faced Geelong in Round 1, 1897. Operating primarily as a defender on the half-back flank, he was a regular fixture in the 'Same Olds' lineup during the competition's foundation year but dropped out of the side late in the season, causing him to miss the club's historic first premiership victory. After a seven-year absence from the league, Darcy made a brief comeback when he crossed to South Melbourne for a final senior appearance in 1904.
