Bio
A seasoned campaigner from the VFA era, Jim Dowdall finally arrived at Victoria Park in 1897 to join his younger brother, Harry, after a failed attempt to transfer from South Melbourne five years earlier. While Harry established himself as a Magpie regular during the club's VFA years, Jim was forced to ply his trade at Richmond before earning a spot in Collingwood's inaugural VFL squad as a mature-age recruit at 29. A diminutive rover standing just 169cm, he brought significant experience to the lineup but managed only six appearances in the newly formed league. After finally fulfilling his ambition to don the black and white stripes alongside his sibling, his brief tenure at the top level ended following the 1897 season, after which he headed country to play for Excelsior in the Ovens and Murray Football League.
