Bio
Recruited from St Kilda CBC, Jim Durnan was a homegrown talent who worked his way through Melbourne’s scholarship squads to make his senior debut in 1979. Standing 187cm, he operated primarily as a tall defensive utility during a bleak on-field era for the Demons, notably enduring a long string of defeats following his rookie season. Durnan briefly left Victoria to play for Claremont in the WAFL in 1982 but returned to Melbourne for the 1984 season. Although he did not add to his senior game count during this second stint, he was a key member of the club's 1984 Reserves premiership side. He later extended his football legacy as a premiership player and coach for Prahran in the VFA before returning to the AFL landscape as a recruiting manager for both the Demons and Richmond.
