Family

Recruited from local club Everton, Jim Edmond established himself as a formidable physical presence for Footscray in the late 1970s. Standing at centre half-forward, he was an imposing figure who combined strong overhead marking with an aggressive, crashing style of play that often intimidated opposition defenders. His leadership qualities were recognised early, and he captained the Bulldogs from 1983 to 1985, playing a pivotal role in the club's resurgence that culminated in a Preliminary Final appearance in his final year at the Western Oval.

Despite his status as a spiritual leader at Footscray, Edmond departed under acrimonious circumstances following a contract dispute, joining Sydney for the 1986 season. His tenure in the Harbour City was short-lived, as the expansion of the competition saw him head north again the following year. Edmond etched his name into history as the inaugural captain of the Brisbane Bears in 1987, providing much-needed steel and experience to the fledgling franchise. He led the Bears for their first two seasons, battling through the club's difficult formative years before retiring at the end of 1988.
