Bio
Hailing from the prolific Gregory footballing dynasty in Ballarat—where eleven brothers played at a high level—Jim Gregory arrived at Victoria Park during the club's final VFA campaign. He immediately established himself as a versatile rover and forward, famously kicking the opening goal of the 1896 Play-off match to help secure Collingwood's first premiership before transitioning into the newly formed VFL the following year. Known for his "immense" kicking and hard-working nature, Gregory was a dangerous avenue to goal who could also push up the ground. His influence extended off the field when he was elected by his teammates to the club committee in 1899, though injuries unfortunately disrupted the latter half of his career before he finished up in 1901.
