Bio
Recruited from Morwell in the Latrobe Valley, Jim Hower was a versatile forward who spent two seasons at Victoria Park during the mid-1950s. Standing 182cm, he primarily operated as a half-forward flanker but possessed the utility to pinch-hit in the ruck, famously finding himself battling Richmond Brownlow Medallist Roy Wright in just his first year. He debuted in Round 4, 1954, and proved to be a capable marking target, averaging nearly a goal a game during his time in the black and white. Despite showing the ability to compete against quality opposition, Hower’s senior career was brief, and he departed the Magpies after just 14 games at the conclusion of the 1955 season.
