Bio
A local talent recruited from the Geelong Scouts, Jim Knight quickly developed into a premier rover and forward known for his exceptional fitness and tenacity. He capped a rapid rise at Geelong by winning the Best and Fairest in 1941, but his career path shifted dramatically when the club withdrew from the league the following year due to wartime travel restrictions. Pursued by Carlton coach Percy Bentley, Knight moved to Princes Park and featured in the Blues' midfield while completing his RAAF training, often playing during leave from service. His promising life was cut short in 1943 when he was killed in an aircraft accident in New Guinea, a tragedy memorialised by Geelong, who name the trophy for their Best and Fairest runner-up in his honour.
