Stats
Bio
Recruited from Camberwell, Jim Lawn was a productive forward who made a significant impact during a short three-season stint at Victoria Park. Operating primarily as a half-forward flanker, he possessed a sharp eye for goal, averaging better than a major per game and earning a place in the Magpies' lineup for the 1925 Grand Final loss to Geelong. Despite his promise at VFL level, Lawn's career took a different trajectory when he accepted a role as captain-coach of Yallourn in 1926, famously steering the country side to a premiership after an initial clearance dispute. He later returned to the city to become a foundation star for Camberwell in the VFA, where he captained the club, won a best and fairest, and booted over 250 goals to cement his standing as a genuine Association great.
